Hiliary Clinton Announces New Partnership to Harness Mobile Technology to Improve Maternal and Child Health

hiliary_clinton2WASHINGTON, D.C., 2 May 2011 — US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton announced a new partnership, the Mobile Alliance for Maternal Action (MAMA), that will harness the power of mobile technology to deliver vital health information to new and expectant mothers.

The partnership leverages the collective resources of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Johnson & Johnson, with support from the United Nations Foundation, mHealth Alliance and BabyCenter LLC. The partnership was developed in collaboration with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the Department of State.

UPMC and Alcatel-Lucent Team to Develop Next-generation Telemedicine Solution

sid_ahuja_vp_alcatel-lucentPittsburgh, Pa., USA  and Paris, 3 May 2011 — UPMC and Alcatel-Lucent have signed an agreement to jointly develop a telemedicine platform and suite of applications that will enable patients to receive care even when they are far from doctors and hospitals. This newest collaboration builds on a relationship and co-development agreement dating back to 2006 between UPMC and Alcatel-Lucent.

didier_dutronc_copyThe Dyna-Vision™ is a multi-purpose remote patient monitoring device used by cardiologists, general practitioners and health centers all over the world. About the size of a PDA and carried by the patient on a belt, the unit is connected to non-invasive sensors attached to the skin which measure up to twelve clinical parameters, including heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, plethysmogram (changes in volume within an organ), SpO2 (the patient's oxygen saturation level) and skin temperature.
